The Byrd Entrepreneurial Institute: Building Community Through Partnership and Empowerment

At the Byrd’s Entrepreneurial Institute (The B.E.I.), our mission is more than just supporting individual entrepreneurs—it’s about uplifting the entire community. We believe that by providing aspiring business leaders with the tools, education, and resources they need to succeed, we contribute to the broader development of the communities we serve. One of the key ways we achieve this is through meaningful partnerships with local organizations, such as The Salvation Army.

Empowering Entrepreneurs, Strengthening Communities

The B.E.I. was founded to address the systemic barriers that minority and underserved entrepreneurs often face. Many individuals in our community have the talent, vision, and drive to succeed, but lack the access to mentorship, funding, and networks needed to take their businesses to the next level. This is where The B.E.I. steps in—offering a 12-week program that not only teaches participants critical business skills but also connects them with a network of mentors and resources.

However, we understand that entrepreneurship doesn’t happen in isolation. The success of our entrepreneurs translates to job creation, economic empowerment, and increased financial independence—all of which ripple through the local economy, strengthening the community as a whole. In this way, The B.E.I.’s mission is tied to community development at its core.

The Power of Partnership: The Salvation Army and BEI

A key component of our work is our partnership with The Salvation Army, a respected organization that shares our commitment to community improvement. The Salvation Army provides essential space for The B.E.I.’s classes and events, offering us a welcoming and accessible location to engage with our participants. This partnership allows us to offer programs that might not otherwise be available to those who need them most.

By collaborating with The Salvation Army, The B.E.I. is able to broaden its reach within Columbus, Georgia, and ensure that aspiring entrepreneurs from all walks of life have a chance to pursue their dreams. Whether it’s through offering physical space for classes or co-hosting community events, this partnership embodies the idea that together, we can make a bigger impact.

Supporting Local Business and Economic Growth

At The B.E.I., we’re not just teaching entrepreneurs how to launch and grow businesses—we’re equipping them with the skills to contribute to the local economy in meaningful ways. By fostering innovation and resilience, our graduates are empowered to create jobs, offer new services, and inspire others within the community to follow their entrepreneurial paths.

This approach to economic empowerment strengthens the fabric of our local economy. Through our partnership with The Salvation Army, we’re able to ensure that entrepreneurs from underserved communities have access to resources that promote financial stability, sustainability, and long-term success.

A Call to Action

As we look ahead, The B.E.I. remains dedicated to its mission of inspiring, educating, and supporting minority and underserved entrepreneurs. Through continued partnerships with organizations like The Salvation Army, we’ll continue to offer resources and opportunities that not only help individuals but also strengthen the entire community.

We invite local businesses, leaders, and community members to get involved with our work. Whether through volunteering, donating, or becoming a mentor, there are countless ways to contribute to the future of our community’s entrepreneurial landscape.

Together, we can build a stronger, more inclusive, and prosperous Columbus.
